Bye ceramics and web design

Just like during the first semester, I really wanted to say goodbye to both modules (Ceramics and Website Design) and welcome the new ones in September.

So: Hi new practicums, I hope I will like you both :)

And I would like to inform my readers (if there are any) that the content of the blog will obviously change (again...)

Ceramics and Sculpture

This module was pretty exciting and new for me. I mean I have only tried making mugs and plates with a friend of mine before. But they rather looked as they were just abstract installations. But this was completely different.

The first class was quite funny because our table did not know what the task was so we chose to make whatever we wanted so the result was a couple of unidentified creatures. But originally this class was only about to get familiar with the material that we were going to use troughout the semester. But it turned out on the first class that we were going to laugh a lot and this module was a kind of entertainment not a „real class”.

During the semester we dealt with clay mostly, plaster, ytong and I can not recall more but George showed us some which I really appreciated because George always wanted to show newer and newer things to us. The plaster was the strangest out of all for me, because until that class I only met plaster at hospitals because while I was younger I always broke my bones... Honestly I did not like the ytong brick because it was too dirty and took a long time to deform it. But finally I finished and made a turtle but that object took 2-3 weeks for me!

I can not even count how many things I did during the months but there were some animals, mostly turtles and a penguin which no one recognized so I went back to the turtle concept. We did a mask which was a bit complicated because it has several steps. During that project we used clay, plaster and a kind of glue for newspaper papers. And finally we painted it.

The last tasks included to make a small sculpture about a real women. As we could guess, that was the hardest. As during the drawing classes in the first semester we got a model again. But I have to say thank you to George that this model was not the usual old lady! :)

Of course this module had its negative effect that is, quoting from my blog „Ahhhh my clothes :( I really should learn that it is worth bringing extra, not quite fashionable clothes, may be some sleeping clothes into the class. And besides my clothes, my nails die every week.” But besides this it was cool, I enjoyed it!

Summary - Web Design

Website Design

At first it seemed that this class will be quite boring for me because I have a previous knowledge about website design. I already knew how to program in html and even making flash objects. Thanks to God or rather Phil this was not right, because on the one hand I didn't learn many new things but the classes were funny and interesting. I mean it was on the second class where we had to design the ugliest webpage ever. Since we are all studying art management I thought that we all have enough fantasy to reach this goal – and I was right, we managed it, we made really disgusting sites, even worse than Hannah Montana!

But ok, lets jump to the serious tasks – we had to make our own websites. I was in trouble in what to choose as a topic for it, at first I wanted to make one about the musical Phantom of the Opera and but I found out that it would be too complicated to make all my ideas – including an intro page with a mask and a red rose which are of course moving objects and I wanted to program the whole thing to be a flash. But, because the flash program is not installed on school computers I decided not to go this direction. My second idea was my favourite Audrey Hepburn. I still don't know if it was a good or „new” thing from me since my blog is also in „Audrey-style”. But finally I made it – with pictures, infos about her which was all written by me, film list etc. and to fulfill my dreams – a little flash object as a header. I got good critics when presenting this to the group.

The final and “huge” project was for the whole group, to create a website for the BAAM. Well, it took 6-7 weeks to finish it. I was put into the programming group together with Szandra and Bernát. I have to admit that it was a pleasure to work with them, especially with Szandra because she was pretty enthusiastic about this thing. She did not know anything about website programming and happily participated in learning all the tricks. So I always showed her how to do this and that so that later on she was able to program things by herself. We could split up the tasks even within us! Being a programmer was not a good thing because for like 3 weeks we had nothing to do (besides Facebook and playing with Honfoglalo) and then the whole thing changed and we got into the focus. Everything was depending on our work if we are capable of making what the others dreamed about or not. It meant a good help that someone created a Facebook group so whenever a new picture or text was uploaded we could start working on that.

The style was Bauhaus which I liked. But it was not at all easy since we did not even have a font for it. So the designer people had a couple of things to handle. But I think the result is amazing – how 10 people were able to put together all this material, all the infos, the pictures, the interviews and so on. I worried a bit if it is possible to make it in time but I think we all did a good job. Honestly, I am proud of us.

To sum it up, although I did not learn too much it was really a pleasure to work in groups and I enjoyed all the classes, but you know Phil that I always aprreciate those people who have good sense of humour! :)

Phil?!

Phil, please be honest because I heard a kind of gossip and I would like to know if it is true or not. Are you leaving???? Some of our classmates said that you are platting to move out even from the continent. It is strange... But I hate gossips so I thought that it is better to ask from you "directly". So if you happen to read my blog - I am waiting for your answer.

Summaries

As usual, we had to write summaries from both practicum modules in order to show what we have learnt, how we felt during the semester etc. And of course, and I was quite honest just like in case with the drawing and photography essays. I will upload both texts to this blog. But in short: thanks Phil, I enjoyed your classes, it was entertaining and funny. And George, I really appreciate that you were so creative that you showed us many methods and even took us to Epreskert!

Group webpage

A good idea - Facebook Group for the team!
Our work is getting easier since the structure is given so if a new picture or text by the content people is uploaded to this Facebook site than we have something to work on. No more bored time... but it is not that easy as it seems since we have to make more than 10 people to be satisfied with our programmed site.

Ceramics

What we have done so far:
Ytong - turtle
Making animals from the usual "brown material" clay - turtle again (I know I am boring)
Mask
Another animal - a penguin (which rather looked as it was a halloween creature)
And another animal...
A women (this model was much better than the one which we had during the first semester for drawing)

Group webpage

Here is the next: create a BAAM page for the whole group. After the first occasion what we have is the following: thanks to my flash knowledge I was chosen to be one of the programming guys. My partners will be Bernat and Szandra.

Audrey

Audrey's page is done. I presented it to everyone (or almost). Of course as it is usual in my case the projector did not work so that I was only able to show it on my PC... Special thing was my flash object as being a header or something like this which appears on all the pages (a moving object!!). So what comes after it? Wainting for the next challenge...
