Ceramics and Sculpture
The first class was quite funny because our table did not know what the task was so we chose to make whatever we wanted so the result was a couple of unidentified creatures. But originally this class was only about to get familiar with the material that we were going to use troughout the semester. But it turned out on the first class that we were going to laugh a lot and this module was a kind of entertainment not a „real class”.
During the semester we dealt with clay mostly, plaster, ytong and I can not recall more but George showed us some which I really appreciated because George always wanted to show newer and newer things to us. The plaster was the strangest out of all for me, because until that class I only met plaster at hospitals because while I was younger I always broke my bones... Honestly I did not like the ytong brick because it was too dirty and took a long time to deform it. But finally I finished and made a turtle but that object took 2-3 weeks for me!
I can not even count how many things I did during the months but there were some animals, mostly turtles and a penguin which no one recognized so I went back to the turtle concept. We did a mask which was a bit complicated because it has several steps. During that project we used clay, plaster and a kind of glue for newspaper papers. And finally we painted it.
The last tasks included to make a small sculpture about a real women. As we could guess, that was the hardest. As during the drawing classes in the first semester we got a model again. But I have to say thank you to George that this model was not the usual old lady! :)
Of course this module had its negative effect that is, quoting from my blog „Ahhhh my clothes :( I really should learn that it is worth bringing extra, not quite fashionable clothes, may be some sleeping clothes into the class. And besides my clothes, my nails die every week.” But besides this it was cool, I enjoyed it!
